ADULT KEELBOAT LESSONS
Basic Cruising

This course is ideal for new sailors. Instruction will be on our 24’ Sharks. Upon completion, you should be able to sail a keelboat up to 35 feet safely in moderate wind and sea conditions. Students will have the opportunity to write the Pleasure Craft Operators Card during this course for an additional fee. CYA Basic Cruising logbook and course book are included in the cost and will be mailed to you prior to the course starting.

Registration, with full payment, is required at least two weeks prior to course start date in order to secure a spot.

INTERMEDIATE CRUISING/BAREBOAT SKIPPER
Taught as a live-aboard course in conjunction with Adventure Sailing Plus Ltd., participants will learn how to manage a sailing vessel in moderate sea and wind conditions in the beautiful 30,000 Islands of Georgian Bay. The CYA Intermediate Cruising Standard is one of the courses considered a pre-requisite to bareboat chartering.

Pre-requisites: CYA Basic Cruising and a VHF Marine Radio License. CYA Coastal navigation or CPS Piloting and a recognized standard first aid course are recommended. (Experienced sailors who wish to challenge the pre-requisites may arrange to do so for an additional fee.

  ADOPT A BOAT
Any Associate or Resident member of RHYC in good standing may participate in this program. You must have a minimum of CYA Basic Cruising Standard or equivalent and your Pleasure Craft Operators Card. You must participate actively in all aspects of boat storage and maintenance and must abide by the boat scheduling. Your required commitment is approximately 25 hours; 10 at launch, 5 through the season and 10 at haul-out. The fee for not contributing time to this program is $10 per hour. You will share a Shark with three other skippers and can book the boat any time it is not being used for sailing instruction. A VHF license is required for both the Sharks.

ADULT LTS MEMBERSHIP
Membership Fee: $999.00 plus GST
This special membership includes: One session of keel boat lessons for $200.

In addition to the lessons provided, participants will be permitted to use the Club facilities from June 1 to November 30 (or from the start date of your session) upon receipt of registration and fee payment.

This includes use of the grounds, lounge, dining room, bar, swimming pool, change rooms and showers. You are also encouraged to attend any of the sailing and social functions put on by the Club throughout the season. In addition you will be eligible for the member rate should you, your spouse or your children wish another session of lessons.

This program is available for first time participants only.

ADULT DINGHY LESSONS
Participants will be taught based on levels as prescribed by the CYA starting with the introductory White Sail level.

Sailors learn basic terminology (i.e. parts of the boat), knots and rules of the water, through on land instruction and activities. On the water, they work on boat safety, handling skills, docking and sail controls. Teaching will be done in 420’s. Bronze level instruction may be provided if requested.

Time: 6pm to 9pm

Additional sessions will be scheduled as demand

  • Session lengths are as listed in the brochure and run full weeks including holidays.
  • Youth Classes run from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm daily.
  • Equipment needed: life jacket with whistle attached, hat, sunglasses, sun screen, towel,
    swimsuit & extra clothing.
  • Fees do not include regatta registration, transportation or other costs associated with
    attendance at regattas.

Waiver: I authorize the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club to provide such medical care to the person listed above, as it may deem necessary in the event of injury or otherwise and agree to pay for all expenses incurred thereby. In part consideration, the RHYC permitting me or the person listed above to participate in activities of its Sailing School Program, I agree to release and discharge and to indemnify and save harmless the RHYC from and against all claims or proceedings by whomsoever made or brought in respect of any costs, losses, damage or injury arising by reason of my/their participation in such activities or by reason of the provision of medical care to me/them.
